Decatur Modern

The competition brief asked designers to address the constraints of an urban infill footprint and develop a chic home that could be easily replicated across multiple sites. The design organizes itself around a vertical light core that spans the height of the house. The structural, concrete side walls sandwich the fleshy, wooden infill between them. The dining bay shifts slightly outside the side walls as it cantilevers a large window that looks back to the streetscape. A rear door opens to allow a cool breeze to filter up through the core and naturally cool the house.
