Two different proposals in Chicago's O'Hare airport presented unique design challenges. The first proposal allotted minimal space along the side of a curving hallway. My response was to interpret a long exposure, nighttime photo of I-94. The bands of light connected separate spaces that were strung along the length of the concourse. The second proposal called for a Chicago "themed" store. Trying to avoid a cartoon-like interpretation of Chicago, I developed a system of girders that could be read as the beginnings of a skyscraper or the support for the "L".
