Disassembly Required
As part of a team of researchers working with Michigan's Dean of Architecture on a summer research project, my role was to develop a photovoltaic roof for this prefab home. The roof was parametrically modeled to respond to any location the house could potentially be located. The parametric model found maximum potential and efficiency based on balancing the gains achieved by: increasing surface area through higher tilts and increasing output through the higher potential of certain tilts. This had to be balanced against the losses resulting from: shading caused by tilted panels, loss of horizontal run due to panel spacing, and possible loss of output due to the lowered potential of a given angle.
