Niu Shu

Honorable Mention 2009 eVolo Competition - William McDonough states that we need to, “honor commerce as the engine of change.” Niu (new) shu (shoe) is a play on the pronunciation of the denoted Mandarin words for twisting and tree that carry a connoted English context. Hong Kong is comprised of a repetition of ubiquitous forms that are only differentiated through their marketing. Niu Shu capitalizes on this by using sustainability as a visible marketing tool. The skyscraper farm serves as a means to subsidize residents income, and foster the transition from rural farmer to city dweller. (Partners: Courtney Brinegar Jennifer Cramer)
