Switchback Mountain

In the midst of negative public opinion about a proposed ramp project, my studio was asked to help gain public support by presenting designs that would connect a park that lay separated by a 40’ hill and a river from a downtown district. The design aimed to minimize the impact to the environmentally sensitive site. The key was to allow for the ramp to dissolve into the hillside. My design was selected to be published as a way of changing perceptions. I focused on how the ramp and stairs would disappear as they wound around trees , prevent further erosion, and be sensitive to individual needs.
